Vasil Maghlaperidze – Discussing or disputing borders recognized by UN in historic context with the Russian authorities would be a big mistake
Discussing or disputing borders as recognized by the United Nations in the historic context especially with the Russian authorities would be a big mistake and nobody has the right to do that – Vasil Maghlaperidze, General Director of Georgian First Channel wrote on social network Facebook page.
According to Maghlaperidze, Russia intruded into the internationally recognized borders and occupied the 20 percent of Georgia’s territory.
“Violation of the internationally recognized borders of Georgia breaches international law. This is the world order recognized by the world. Some countries, including Russia, destruct this order but recognize it formally. Therefore, when discussing the issues of territorial integrity on the official level, especially with Russia, the main point of Georgia should be the borders recognized by the United Nations. . . . The United Nations recognized Georgia in its borders in 1991 and the issue was closed. The world lives with this order at present.
P.S. Thus, it does not actually matter how well President knows the Georgian history of the 18th century. But if any journalist dares and asks President Putin how reasonable he finds to discuss the history of Russia based on conditions of the 18th century, the answer would be very interesting,” Vasil Maghlaperidze wrote.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on July 9 that “in 1918, Georgia, with help of the German troops, occupied Abkhazia. Georgia did the same in Ossetia in 1919-1920 that is genocide.”
