Vakhtang Makharoblishvili - Part of the citizens, who are asking asylum, are unfortunately involved in crime

In the process of implementation of legislative changes regarding visa liberalization, the procedures should be tightened, but at the same time the advantage of using visa-free regime in the Schengen zone for citizens of Georgia should not be limited, – Vakhtang Makharoblishvili, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs stated in that regard. He is participating in the presentation of the third wave of information campaign on visa-free travel, which is being held at the Information Center of NATO and the European Union.

According to him, the first two phases of the information campaign, already implemented, were aimed at raising public awareness on the rights and obligations of citizens in the context of visa-free travel in the Schengen Area. The third wave will be directed to specific challenges that have been shown in the process of using visa-free regime.

“The third wave will be directed to the context of the groundless utilization of the asylum system, how the groundless appeals on asylum can harm population and at the same time to the state. In addition, crime is the issue which turned to be a challenge and the part of groundless asylum request. Part of the citizens, who are asking asylum, are unfortunately involved in the crime” – Vakhtang Makharoblishvili said.
