Georgia to focus on expectations related to candidate status at EaP Ministerial, says Georgian mission to EU Head

Vakhtang Makharoblishvili, Head of the Representation of Georgia to the European Union, highlighted that during the Eastern Partnership Ministerial in Brussels, the Georgian focus would be on reforms and expectations related to obtaining candidate country status.

He hoped that Georgia would soon become a candidate country, emphasizing the need for a new vision for future activities within the Eastern Partnership.

Makharoblishvili stated that during the meeting, Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili would discuss new initiatives and projects to enhance the Eastern Partnership’s role and function.

“The Georgian FM will talk about those new initiatives and projects, which may add a new function and role to the Eastern Partnership, taking into account the new situation related to the candidate status of some countries of the Eastern Partnership,” stated Vakhtang Makharoblishvili.

He continued: “The Georgian side has a very clear vision of what these initiatives and projects can be, including connectivity, digital connections and, to some extent, cooperation between countries in terms of security, which, I think, will be interesting in the context of Georgia-EU relations”.
