UNM's Bokuchava calls for clear deadline on Salome Zourabichvili's unity efforts by March 31

“I think we should set reasonable deadlines for the format created around Salome Zourabichvili, for example, by March 31, by which time we will tell citizens whether the unity attempt has succeeded,” the Unity-National Movement chairperson, Tina Bokuchava, told journalists.

She added that creating false expectations is wrong and counterproductive.

“The Unity-National Movement supported opposition unity even before the elections, as we considered a common front important in this civilizational and existential struggle for the country. However, we cannot force other parties to form their positions. Therefore, everyone must make their own decision. Of course, we supported creating such unity around Salome Zourabichvili, despite her completely unjustifiable refusal to pardon President Saakashvili.

However, in my opinion, we should set specific deadlines, after which it will be clear that this unity has not materialized, and each political party should continue the fight against Ivanishvili’s regime within their own capabilities and on their own front.

The UNM has been doing this for thirteen years. Accordingly, we know very well and understand what this fight against the Russian regime should look like.

I understand that government propaganda will unequivocally try to seek differences among opposition parties to fragment and scatter opposition forces. Of course, the fragmentation of the opposition, especially mutual confrontation, benefits Ivanishvili. In reality, this is his only chance for survival.

Therefore, I will never contribute to this. I repeat once again that I think we should set reasonable deadlines for the format created around Salome Zourabichvili, for example, by March 31, by which time we will tell citizens whether the unity attempt has succeeded. Because creating false expectations is also wrong and counterproductive in such a situation,” Tina Bokuchava stated.
