Tamaz Borashvili: I have served our national security for over 20 years; if confirmed, I will redouble my efforts to protect Georgia’s interests

“Should Parliament grant me its confidence to assume the office of Head of the State Security Service, I will seek to apply redoubled energy to defending our country’s national interests,” declared Tamaz Borashvili, following his formal nomination by the Prime Minister at today’s press briefing.

Borashvili thanked Irakli Kobakhidze for the trust placed in him and for submitting his candidacy to head the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG).

“For over 20 years, I have served the national security interests of our country. Should I be elected, it will be a supreme honour to assume this office. If Parliament approves my nomination, I will dedicate redoubled energy to defending our national interests and bolstering our security; it will be an immense privilege to hold this office. I extend my gratitude to Mr Geka Geladze for his honourable leadership of the State Security Service and wish him every success in his new endeavours,” Borashvili noted.

Geka Geladze has stepped down as Head of the SSSG and will transition to the post of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs. Tamaz Borashvili’s nomination for Head of the Security Service has been officially submitted to Parliament for confirmation.
