First Vice Speaker Volski: Not one opposition party has taken steps to develop European-standard politics in Georgia; instead, we face a constant clash fueled by the ‘deep state’
“Opposition supporters are waiting for someone from these parties to come out and say they have nothing to do with revolutionary processes or with actions that could be considered sabotage, and to prove that they want to fight for and win power for the sake of the country’s development,” said Gia Volski, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
He said that no opposition party has taken any step towards developing a European-standard political process in Georgia.
“There is constant confrontation, financially and politically encouraged by the War Party, the ‘deep state’. They created this reality, and no one has released a statement to distance themselves from it or deny their involvement. Everyone claims that Georgian Dream is somehow to blame for Russia occupying 20% of Georgia and for further aggression being likely, as if it were our fault that Russia has certain advantages in the South Caucasus and can make the occupation more aggressive. Yet we are the ones who proved this occupation exists, not the United National Movement. Not a single person among them has spoken out to deny that a revolution is being attempted, or to claim that the charge of sabotage doesn’t apply to them. They want the parties to be judged separately. Then let them come out and say why they consider their party a structure separate from the collective National Movement, one that supposedly needs to be charged separately. Lelo does not deny that it has had links with the UNM, whether financial or political. If they have any argument, let them make it. Lelo does not say why it is taking part, alongside the Nats Movement, in sabotage aimed at destroying the country. This is a single force that has taken part in all of this together,” Volski said.
