Public Defender meets with CoE Secretary General

The Public Defender of Georgia, Levan Ioseliani, met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset.

According to the Public Defender of Georgia’s press office, “the parties spoke about the current developments in the country, political polarization, the cases of ill-treatment of protesters by law enforcement officers, and the situation of freedom of assembly and expression in general.”

“The Public Defender also spoke about the activities of the Office in terms of protecting the human rights of the detainees or those injured during the arrest,” reads the statement.

Alain Berset said Public Defender’s work “is essential for the transparency of investigations on alleged police violence and unjustified detention.”
