PM: Our statehood spans 23 centuries, we are proud of our independence and our nation

“Our statehood spans 23 centuries, and we are proud of our independence and our nation,” stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in his speech delivered at the event celebrating Georgia’s Independence Day in Budapest.

According to the Press Service of the Government Administration, the PM pointed out that Georgia has fought for independence for centuries, and this fight is embedded in the Georgian genetic code.

“This fight continues. And now we are fighting for freedom and independence. Hungary is one of the key supporters in Georgia’s fight for independence. We are grateful to our friends, the Government of Hungary. The strong friendship and cooperation between our nations and governments is in full swing, and I am convinced that it will grow even stronger in the future,” Irakli Kobakhidze said.

The event marking Georgia’s Independence Day was attended by Hungary’s EU Affairs Minister.

In his speech, Janos Bóka underlined the strategic partnership between Georgia and Hungary, adding that Hungary supports Georgia’s EU aspirations.

“Allow me to pass on best holiday wishes from Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and the Hungarian Government on the occasion of Georgia’s Independence Day. We are honored to be your voice in the EU while attempts to silence you are being made. We stand by you, always. Our nations have a clear understanding of the importance of sovereignty and independence. We both know that it is not easy to gain, nor is it free.

“We cherish our values. We are both European nations and proud countries, and we want to remain such. We are two islands of freedom in the ocean of old and new empires. We reach out to each other, building bridges and a future for our children. Today, we stand before you to testify to our faithfulness. May peace and prosperity indwell in Georgia. Long live the proud Georgian nation,” Janos Bóka stated.

The event celebrating Georgia’s Independence Day was organized by the Georgian Embassy in Hungary.
