The Parliament has adopted the draft law On Amendments to the Defense Code in its third reading, with 85 votes in favor.
Deputy Minister of Defense Grigol Giorgadze presented the bill at the parliamentary session.
The amendments aim to clarify the functions of the Georgian Defense Forces and refine provisions related to military service, including social guarantees, military registration, and the organization of both the National Military Service of Conscripts and Reserve Military Service.
The draft law also addresses issues concerning military education and volunteering in the defense sector.
In line with the Defense Code, the amendments extend to several related laws. These include regulations on the completion or early termination of non-military, alternative labor service, as well as the remuneration of individuals enlisted in the National Military Service of Conscripts.
Additionally, the legislative package classifies failure to appear before the conscription or medical commission for the purpose of avoiding conscription as a legal violation.
