Military honoured the memory of national hero Giorgi Antsukhelidze

August 18 marks the birthday of Georgia’s national hero, Senior Sergeant Giorgi Antsukhelidze, who would have turned 39 today.

Аamily members, friends, military personnel from Giorgi Antsukhelidze Sergeants’ Academy, and the 4th Infantry Brigade gathered near his grave at the Mukhatghedi Brothers’ Cemetery to commemorate his memory. Giorgi Ankshelidze heroically lost his life during the 2008 Russia-Georgia war.

Born on August 18, 1984, in the village of Kvemo Alvani, Akhmet district, Giorgi Antsukhelidze served as a soldier in the 41st Battalion of the 4th Infantry Brigade. During the 2008 war, he was captured on August 9 and tortured to death. He was awarded the title of National Hero of Georgia on April 15, 2013, and also received the Order of Vakhtang Gorgasli 1st degree and the medal Devoted to the Motherland. The Sergeant’s Academy is named after him.
