“Giorgi Antsukhelidze’s heroism remains an immortal example of loyalty to the homeland, self-sacrifice, and valiance for each of us and future generations alike,” said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

“Today marks the birthday of Giorgi Antsukhelidze, Georgia’s national hero, a patriot who sacrificed his life for the homeland.

Once again, it is with pain and yet pride that we commemorate this finest embodiment of the unbreakable Georgian spirit that has forever written the name of Giorgi Antsukhelidze in gold letters in our country’s history. His heroism remains an immortal example of loyalty to the homeland, self-sacrifice, and valiance for each of us and future generations alike,” the PM said.

Giorgi Antsukhelidze, a hero of the August 2008 Russia-Georgia war, was a Corporal of the IV Infantry Brigade, who was captivated by the Ossetian separatists in the course of the war and tortured.
