Lithuanian FM calls for crisis resolution through new elections in Georgia

“The best way out of the crisis that is right now in Georgia is to organize the new elections that would be in line with ODIHR recommendations,” Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers.

“We see the reports about the Georgian people who want a European future still on the streets for more than 50 days. That puts a duty on our side also to respond to it and then to answer to it. From remembering the last Foreign Affairs Council meeting we missed the chance to go with the stronger message and then with the stronger restrictive measures as we did in Lithuania. Some of the countries also followed this track. That’s the way to continue.

The best way out of the crisis that is right now in Georgia is to organize new elections that would be in line with ODIHR recommendations. That’s way forward otherwise we would see that the overall democratic situation in Georgia is collapsing,” the Lithuanian Foreign Minister concluded.
