Italian footballers call for suspension of all football in the country due to COVID-19

The president of the Italian Footballers’ Association Damiano Tommasi says football should be suspended in Italy amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

“Let’s stop the league!! Do we need anything else? Stop football!!” Tommasi tweeted.

Italian professional footballer Mario Balotelli who plays with Brescia echoed Damiano Tommasi’s calling and said all football in Italy must be suspended due to the novel virus.

Italy has sealed off its northern region of Lombardy, along with several other northern cities. A total of 16 million people have placed under quarantine till April.

Under the quarantine, wedding, religious and cultural events suspended, while cinemas, nightclubs, swimming pools, gyms, museums and mountain resorts were locked down.

Restaurants and cafes work from 6 a.m to 6 p.m. The distance from the table to the table should be one meter.

Italian authorities are urging residents to refrain from leaving their homes.
