GPB First Channel joins European Perspective project

The First Channel of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) joined the European Perspective project based on application submitted in September 2022.

European Perspective is an initiative launched by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). It entails the establishment of a pan-European networked newsroom in which journalists work collectively to create diverse, cross-cultural products and make reliable and verified news more accessible.

This EBU-led initiative includes Members from Belgium (RTBF), Estonia (ERR), Finland (Yle), France (France Télévisions), Germany (BR-ARD), Ireland (RTÉ), Italy (Eurovision Italy), Latvia (LSM.lv), Lithuania (LRT), Portugal (RTP), Spain (RTVE), Sweden (SR), Switzerland (SWI swissinfo.ch) as well as ARTE, the Franco-German broadcaster, the Constructive Institute from Denmark and Agence France Presse (AFP).

“As a European concept, we, public broadcasters, have shared aims, objectives, and values. We empower the community by delivering accurate and trustworthy news across all platforms. I am delighted that GPB First Channel has emerged as a recognized and reliable partner for this large-scale project. We have joined the European Perspective and are ready to provide the public with trustworthy and verified information throughout Europe,” Tinatin Berdzenishvili, Director General of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) stated.

Within the initiative, artificial intelligence translates the news into the languages of the nations involved in the project. The process requires minimal human intervention. More than 14 European nations’ news will soon be available in Georgian on the GPB online platform – 1tv.ge – and news uploaded to the GPB online platform will be posted on project participant countries’ web-portals.
