The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement on the 63rd round of the Geneva International Discussions.
According to the ministry, the Georgian delegation emphasized key agenda issues, including Russia’s full compliance with the ceasefire agreement and the dignified return of internally displaced persons and refugees from the occupied territories.
“During the talks, the delegation voiced concern over the deteriorating security, humanitarian, and human rights situation in the occupied regions, as well as the ongoing illegal militarization. In this context, Georgia condemned the construction of a Russian naval base in Ochamchire and the commissioning of Sukhumi airport. The Georgian side also denounced the so-called “provocations” in Abkhazia, including the illegal presidential elections and the Russian President’s meeting with the leader of the occupation regime, calling it another step toward annexation that violates Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
As in previous rounds, representatives of Russia and the occupation regimes walked away from discussions on one of the main agenda points—the return of internally displaced persons and refugees.
The Geneva International Talks, established under the EU-brokered August 12, 2008 ceasefire agreement, focus on its implementation, the safe return of displaced persons, and security and humanitarian challenges stemming from the Russian occupation. The talks are co-chaired by the EU, the UN, and the OSCE, with participation from Georgia, Russia, and the United States,” the Ministry stated.
