The Georgian Foreign Ministry on Thursday denied reports that it is abolishing its EU integration directorate.
The ministry clarified that as part of ongoing reforms, it is creating a new European Affairs Political Directorate that will merge the existing European and EU integration departments.
“The EU integration department will be expanded to include four divisions that will serve the country’s EU integration agenda,” the statement said.
Officials added that the new structure “will further enhance effective coordination with European countries” in fulfilling Georgia’s European integration objectives.
The statement comes amid increased scrutiny of Georgia’s EU membership ambitions, following recent tensions between Tbilisi and Brussels over democratic reforms.
