Georgian MFA released information regarding meeting with diplomatic corps
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia released official information regarding a meeting with the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia.
First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgi Zurabashvili, briefed diplomats on the outcomes of the 2025 local self-government elections and the events of October 4. Zurabashvili stressed the importance of an objective assessment of the incident and called on international partners to distance themselves from the violent actions of protesters.
“A meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia. The diplomats were briefed on the results of the 2025 local self-government elections and the events of October 4.
According to the Deputy Minister, around 1,000 observers representing 28 international and 27 local organizations, along with 73 media outlets, monitored the elections. Their overall assessment confirmed that the vote was conducted peacefully and transparently, the process was professionally administered, and Georgian citizens were able to freely exercise their democratic rights.
Addressing the October 4 events, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgi Zurabashvili stated that once the rally exceeded the limits set by the Law on Assembly and Manifestation, its organizers began voicing violent messages. In response, law enforcement officers applied legal measures to restore public order. Zurabashvili stressed the importance of an objective assessment of the incident and called on international partners to distance themselves from the violent actions of protesters, noting that many police officers and journalists were injured and municipal infrastructure was damaged.
