Protest detainees among prisoners pardoned by Georgian President
Among the prisoners pardoned by Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on the occasion of the Mariamoba holiday are individuals who were detained during various protest rallies.
According to available information, those pardoned include Saba Jikia, Fridon Bubuteishvili, Simon Makharadze, Davit Khomeriki, Guram Khutashvili, Daniel Mumladze, Avtandil Topchishvili and Tornike Mchedlishvili.
Kavelashvili pardoned 226 people in total on the occasion of Mariamoba. According to the President’s Administration, the pardon applies to 217 people serving prison sentences and six people serving non-custodial sentences, while three individuals had their criminal convictions expunged.
“The exercise by the President of Georgia of the exclusive constitutional authority granted to him is based on the principles of humanism and the state interest,” the President’s Administration said.
