Georgian MFA holds preparatory meeting ahead of GID 65th round

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia held a preparatory meeting with the co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions — representatives of the European Union, the United Nations, and the OSCE — ahead of the 65th round of negotiations.

According to the Ministry, the meeting was chaired by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of the Georgian Delegation to the Geneva Discussions, Lasha Darsalia.

“The meeting focused on ensuring the effectiveness of the negotiation format. Particular emphasis was placed on achieving progress on the main issues on the agenda, including the fulfillment of international obligations undertaken by Russia under the EU-brokered ceasefire agreement of August 12, 2008, and the safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons and refugees,” the statement reads.

The sides also underlined the importance of restoring the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) in Gali without preconditions and ensuring its regular operation in both Gali and Ergneti, in line with the core principles of the mechanism.

Discussions also centered on the deteriorating security, humanitarian, and human rights situation in the occupied regions and along the occupation line. Attention was drawn to the attempts of the occupation regime to restrict or block projects aimed at fostering confidence-building in the Abkhazian region.

The 65th round of the Geneva International Discussions is scheduled to take place on November 11–12, 2025.
