Georgian and German sides discussed the case of Zelimkhan Khangoshvili
The First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Vakhtang Makharoblishvili met with German Ambassador to Georgia Hubert Knirsch. The sides exchanged views on current issues between the two countries, bilateral relations, visits, and upcoming events.
One of the main topics of the meeting was the murder of Zelimkhan Khangoshvili. The German side informed the Georgian side about the ongoing investigation.
‘I had a very fruitful conversation with my Georgian counterpart. At the meeting, we paid particular attention to the ongoing investigation of the murder of Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, which is carried out by the German side, but this issue is in the interest of both countries.
I have informed the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia about the doubt the German authorities have that this murder case is a state-funded crime, and the investigation is underway,’ Hubert Knirsch stressed.
Vakhtang Makharoblishvili noted that on this particular case the sides have well-regulated communication.
Regarding the murder of Zelimkhan Khangoshvili earlier this year, Germany urges the Kremlin to step up efforts to support German investigators. As German defense minister, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, stated Russia must take further action in the investigation.
Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, a 40-year-old Georgian activist, was shot by a cyclist in Berlin.
