Georgia reports first case of Omicron variant

Georgia has reported the first case of the new Omicron variant, the Head of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Amiran Gamkrelidze, said on Monday.

Two Georgian citizens, who arrived from Dubai and the US, contracted the new strain. Their twenty-six contacts are being monitored, Gamkrelidze noted.

The Omicron coronavirus variant has been reported in 89 countries, the World Health Organization (WHO) has said.
