Georgia frees over 250 inmates under newly endorsed amnesty law

Georgia Wednesday kicked off releasing over 250 prisoners under the amnesty law endorsed by the Georgian parliament last week.

MPs Mikheil Sarjveladze and Aluda Gudushauri pledged this very process would continue in the coming days.

The prisoners who had committed crimes before January 1, 2004, will benefit from the law. Those sentenced to life imprisonment, as well as those convicted of murder, inhuman treatment, terrorism, wrongdoing, and crimes against humanity, do not fall under the new law.
