Coalition for Change's Khoshtaria declines CoE meeting invitation, criticizes them for ignoring political prisoners
Elene Khoshtaria, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, has declined an invitation to meet with the Council of Europe (CoE) delegation, citing their failure to engage with political prisoners as a significant oversight.
In a social media post, Khoshtaria emphasized the CoE’s fundamental mission to uphold human rights.
“The Council of Europe is not a state; it is an organization that should remain neutral in matters of recognition. Unfortunately, it allowed the Georgian Dream to manipulate this visit for propaganda. Their failure to engage with political prisoners represents another major error,” she noted.
Khoshtaria further articulated the necessity of upholding principles.
“Organizations can make mistakes, but it is vital to maintain a firm commitment to core values. By neglecting the issue of political prisoners, this visit lacks substance,” she said.
Consequently, Khoshtaria declared her intent to abstain from the meeting with the delegation, stating, “For these reasons, I will not participate.”
Additionally, the Coalition for Change stated on December 18, accusing the Georgian Dream of exploiting the visit of the CoE Secretary General for deceptive propaganda designed to create a false impression of European endorsement of their legitimacy.
