Amiran Gamkrelidze: 1096 tests were done in 12 laboratories today

At the meeting with the Minister of Health, we discussed the issue of further expanding laboratory diagnostic of the new coronavirus, – said Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the Center for Disease Control at a briefing at the Ministry of Health today.

As he noted the issue of molecular diagnostics was discussed at the meeting. According to him, by May 15, the number of daily testing should be increased to at least 1,500.
“At the next stage, this figure should be raised from 2000 to 2500”, he added.

“From May 15, we plan to conduct 2000-2500 tests daily. When the restrictive measures are gradually facilitated, it is necessary to have broad access to PCR tests. On the other hand, hospitals and primary care systems must be fully prepared. The country movies in this direction, ” – Amiran Gamkrelidze said.
