President’s Parliamentary Secretary summoned to General Prosecutor’s Office

Dimitri Gabunia, Parliamentary Secretary of President of Georgia is being questioned at General Prosecutor’s Office regarding the pardoning of prisoners by President Salome Zurabishvili on August 28.

Gabunia said that he was ready to answer all questions of the investigation body. President’s Parliamentary Secretary told journalists that the investigation would determine who were responsible for the list of the pardoned persons but claimed that he did not have the information about the names on the list.

The General Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into the pardoning of convicts by President Salome Zurabishvili on September 20.

According to the agency, the investigation was launched into alleged abuse of power in the pardoning procedure. “The Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia has launched an investigation into the alleged abuse of power in the process of pardoning of convicts – Ramaz Devadze, Aslan Bezhanidze, Zurab Nadiradze and others,” the agency said in a statement.

President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili pardoned 34 prisoners in connection with Virgin Mary Day on August 28 including three convicts charged for the murder and one person wanted by law enforcers.
