One person detained for assisting Akhmed Chatayev

The Counterterrorist Department of the State Security Service detained Anatoly Berdzenishvili, citizen of Georgia, on the basis of the court ruling yesterday.

According to the available information, the investigation has established that the detainee arrived in Turkey to assist Akhmed Chatayev and his group members. The detainee, along with Zurab Gornakashvili and Zurab Idoidze, helped Akhmed Chatayev and his group members to move to the Turkish-Georgian border.

The investigation is underway under Article 331 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to financing terrorism, providing other material support or resources for terrorist activities, which has resulted in serious consequences. The crime is punished by jail term from 17 to 20 years or life imprisonment.

Anatoly Berdzenishvili will be presumably presented charges today. He uses the right to keep silence and does not plead guilty.
