GYLA to publish second interim pre-election environment report

Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA) published the second interim pre-election environment report for the October 2 municipal elections. The report covers the period from August 3 to September 24.

The report highlights different problems detected during the observation period, namely, the use of administrative resources, alleged voter bribing, intimidation and pressure on opposition’s supporters, illegal participation in campaigning.

“Personification and ruling party’s affiliation of the governmental projects remains a challenge that erases boundaries between the government and the Georgian Dream (GD) party,” the organization said.

GYLA revealed several physical and verbal assault facts that are a crime and require thorough and objective investigation. Damage to political advertisement materials (banners, posters) was frequent. The NGO report also includes two cases of an individual’s dismissal from a public institution on the political ground.

GYLA continues to observe the pre-election period across Georgia through its nine regional offices.
