Donald Tusk: Collapse of the Soviet Union was a very positive event for Georgia, Poland, Central and Eastern Europe

I want to say loudly from this tribune – the collapse of the Soviet Union was a very great and positive event for Georgia, Poland, Central and Eastern Europe, – Donald Tusk, President of the European Council said in his speech at the International Conference “Ten years of Valued Partnership – Passed Way and Perspectives” taking  place  in Batumi city of Adjara region.

The Batumi International Conference is dedicated to the 10thanniversary of the establishment of the Eastern Partnership Initiative.

As Donald Tusk noted the 15th anniversary of the expansion of the EU is celebrated this year, which has brought great results.

“It is an honor for me to take part in this conference in Batumi, where we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership. We celebrate the 15th anniversary of the expansion of the EU in 2019, which has brought great results for my country – Poland. We also celebrate the collapse of the Soviet domination, which started in Tbilisi with demonstrations and continued in Poland. You probably remember when the Russian president said in 2005 that it was time to recognize that the collapse of the Soviet Union was a big mistake of the epoch. I want to say very loudly today that the collapse and the destruction of the Soviet Union was a great positive event for Georgia, Poland, Central and Eastern Europe and I am sure even for Russia. This is a very symbolic time to judge what we have gone through for these 10 years and how we can keep going on this path,” Donald Tusk said.
