Bill Browder - Poisoning of former Russian spy in Britain is a terror attack organized by Russian state

“The latest actions of Russia are the most alarming after the end of the Cold War, ” – said Bill Browder, CEO of Hermitage Capital Management in an exclusive interview with the First Channel.

According to him, the poisoning of former Russian spy and his daughter in Britain is a terror attack organized and implemented by another state in the territory of the NATO member state.

“This is a state-organized, financed and implemented terrorist act. A terrorist act that was carried out by using chemical weapons against citizens and this took place in a NATO member state. The latest actions of Russia are the most alarming after the end of the Cold War, this is the solid reason and ground for aggravation of the relations and escalation of the situation, “, – said Bill Browder.

The head of Hermitage Capital does not consider the decision of U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May about expelling 23 Russian diplomats from the country as a sufficient measure. He said that sanctions should be imposed, as well as the accounts of Russian government officials and oligarchs must be frozen.

“I think that the decision of U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May about expelling 23 Russian diplomats from the country is insufficient. Bank accounts of Russian government officials and oligarchs must be frozen instantly. The assets should be frozen by using Magnitsky Act and persons involved in the case should be prohibited to enter the country. Economic sanctions should be considered. The sanctions from European states must be added to the sanctions imposed by UK. The EU member states should join the sanctions. The response must be adequate and approach consistent. This is a state-run terrorist act, which once again exposes the Russian authorities”, – said the head of the Hermitage Capital Foundation in an exclusive interview with the First Channel.

As a reminder, Sergei Magnitsky was the lawyer of British investment company Hermitage Capital. Magnitsky died in a Russian jail in November 2009.

A campaign by Browder led the US to impose sanctions in 2012 on top Russian officials accused of corruption. The sanctions list is named the Magnitsky Act.

Browder was declared as a threat to Russian national security and was refused entry to Russia. He is author of the book How I Became Putin’s No. 1 Enemy.
