Archil Talakvadze: OSCE/ODIHR representatives reiterate their assessment that parliamentary elections were competitive, fundamental freedoms were respected

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Archil Talakvadze said an interesting meeting held between the representatives of the Georgian Dream and the OSCE / ODIHR delegation, headed by Jillian Stirk.

As Talakvadze noted, the OSCE/ODIHR representatives reiterated their assessment that the elections were highly competitive and that fundamental rights were protected.

“We thanked them for coming to Georgia amid pandemic to observe our parliamentary elections. The results show that for the first time in the recent history of Georgia, we held parliamentary elections under a substantially proportional system, as a result of which political parties were able to overcome the barrier and enter the parliament independently. It will be a multi-party parliament and, of course, the elections will serve to further strengthen Georgia’s democracy,” Talakvadze stated.
