2019 European Weightlifting Championship opened in Batumi (Video, Photo)

Batumi city of Georgia’s Adjara region will be hosting the 2019 European Weightlifting Championship on April 6-13. The opening ceremony was held this afternoon.

The team of the host country appeared on the stage with full membership. Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili also gave a speech. “It is a wonderful day for Batumi and for whole Georgia. It is a great honor for Georgia to host the European Weightlifting Championship this year. This means that Georgia won the trust of the international sports community in this and also other kinds of sports,” Zurabishvili said.

Tornike Rizhvadze, Head of Adjara Autonomous Republic and Mikheil Giorgadze, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports also wished success to the Georgian sportsmen.

Giorgi Asanidze, Georgian weightlifter who competed in the men’s 85 kg at the 2000 Summer Olympics and 2004 Summer Olympics, published the list of participant Georgian sportsmen. The 13-member list includes 3 women.

Shota Mishveladze, Georgian weightlifter who won 2018 European Weightlifting Championship will become engaged in the championship on April 7. Weightlifter Goga Chkheidze will attempt to struggle for a medal on April 8.
