COVID-19 is no longer a global health emergency, the World Health Organization announced on Friday
The WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that “COVID-19 is now an established and ongoing health issue which no longer constitutes a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).”
The WHO’s Emergency Committee met on Thursday and recommended the UN agency declare an end to the public health emergency of international concern, which has been in place for over three years.
WHO reported some seven million confirmed deaths from COVID-19 worldwide since the virus outbreak in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.
