White House 'not surprised' by Putin re-election

The White House says it is not surprised by the outcome of the Russian presidential election that gave Vladimir Putin another six-year term.

Spokesman Hogan Gidley says there is currently no congratulatory call scheduled between Putin and President Donald Trump. “We’re not surprised by the outcome,” the Spokesman said.

“We will work to cultivate the relationship with Russia and we will impose costs when Russia threatens our interests, but we will also look for places to work together when it serves our interests,” the Spokesman told reporters on Air Force One.
