Vice-Speaker: Khazaradze and Japaridze entered politics to escape fraud charges
First Vice-Speaker of Parliament Gia Volski criticised opposition figures Badri Japaridze and Mamuka Khazaradze, stating that the ‘facts of the crimes are so evident that it will be difficult for them to remain in politics.’
According to Volski, the Lelo party leaders chose to break the law and now attempt to frame their violations as politically motivated actions.
“Khazaradze and Japaridze entered politics because their fraudulent actions were apparent. The current situation is similar—they avoid attending the commission session because they know they cannot answer the questions. Instead, they try to present themselves as political exiles,” he said.
Badri Japaridze was summoned to appear before the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Parliament on March 25 but failed to do so. He was charged under Article 349 of the Criminal Code for “failure to comply with the request of the Temporary Investigative Commission.” As a preventive measure, Japaridze was released on bail set at GEL 50,000, which he has paid.
