US Ambassador: Vaccination to be important to open up economy

US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan believes “vaccination is very important to opening up the economies, and to allowing people to restore some kind of normal life, contact with their families, and friends.”

Degnan says “providing people with accurate information about the vaccines and about why the vaccination is safe and important to fighting this pandemic is very important.”

“So, I think the more information that is available to the public, the stronger the interest will be in getting vaccinated. Already the numbers here in Georgia are increasing just as we saw happen in the United States and in Europe. So, I am confident that with more information the public will embrace vaccinations. I would just encourage everyone to please, please, please continue to wear your masks, social distance, wash your hands – that is the only way that the pandemic is going to be controlled here, and allow tourists to come and businesses to open up. So, please don’t stop with all these very important precautions,” Ambassador stated.

As of today, 20,622 people got the coronavirus jab in Georgia. The Head of the National Centre for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC), Amiran Gamkrelidze, says this is not enough. At least 3,000-4,000 people should get the jab per day.
