UNM's Japaridze: This is not a court, Saakashvili faces punishment for his love of country

“The main problem for Ivanishvili is Mikheil Saakashvili, and that is why they are using every means to punish him,” said Sopho Japaridze, a member of the Unity National Movement.

“This is not a court; it has turned into a circus, where there is everything except truth. The concept of justice has become irrelevant and simply does not exist.

Mikheil Saakashvili is being punished for his love for the country, for refusing to surrender it to Russia, for swiftly steering it towards the West, for making Georgia the top reformer in the world, for eradicating corruption, and for every positive change that took place during his government,” said Sopho Japaridze.

The Tbilisi City Court found former President Mikheil Saakashvili guilty of illegal border crossing. Saakashvili was sentenced to four years and six months. However, the judge imposed a cumulative sentence of 12 years and six months imprisonment based on the totality of verdicts.
