UNM: Opposition to discuss suspension of funding and deregistration of main opposition party

The opposition would discuss the radical initiatives voiced by the ruling party regarding the suspension of funding for parliament-boycotting political parties and deregistration of the main opposition party, Zaal Udumashvili, a member of the United National Movement, said.

According to him, the authoritarian regime in the country will be legalized by the approval of the aforementioned bills.

“No changes have been made to our plans since October 31. Our main demand is new elections. It is the plan. We will discuss the radical initiatives that include the suspension of funding for opposition parties and the deregistration of the main opposition party. There is nothing worse than that in the country. This country is moving towards an authoritarian regime, which would be officially legalized if these bills were adopted,” Udumashvili said.

According to him, the main topic of discussion at the fifth round of talks between the opposition parties and the ruling Georgian Dream would be the bills initiated by the ruling team. Udumashvili noted that the fifth round will finally decide whether there will be an agreement between the opposition and the government.

Four rounds of talks have been held between the opposition parties and the ruling Georgian Dream at the facilitation of the US and EU Ambassadors since October 31 parliamentary elections. The opposition calls the election rigged and demands holding a snap election. The ruling party insists that eight opposition parties that secured their seats in the Parliament of 10th Convocation must engage in the parliamentary work, otherwise, their state funding may be suspended.
