MPs from the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party protested and showed sympathy with ex-President Mikhail Saakashvili by leaving the parliament session venue.
While Justice Minister Rati Bregadze was reporting to parliament during the Ministerial Hour, UNM legislators exhibited images of Saakashvili. Khatia Dekanoidze, a UNM MP, termed the minister a criminal.
“The minister standing here is a criminal who must now answer questions from the prosecutor and the inquiry rather than stand here and cast ashes on Georgian society. He has the arrogance to come and have all of you, my colleagues, stand and listen to a direct criminal,” Khatia Dekanoidze said.
The Special Penitentiary Service released video footage of Mikheil Saakashvili, Georgia’s former president, on December 14.
