Georgia’s UN Envoy: Inaccurate narrative about Georgia continues to circulate, such portrayals distort reality, ignore recognized progress

On 8 September 2026, during the General Debate at the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) Member States delivered statements following the oral presentation of the annual report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. The statement delivered on behalf of the European Union focused on the human rights situation around the world, including with regard to Georgia.

The Permanent Representative of Georgia to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva Revaz Lominadze delivered a statement stressing Russia’s illegal occupation of Georgia’s Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions and the human rights violations therein, as confirmed by the decisions of International Courts.

In response to the statement delivered by the European Union, the Permanent Representative of Georgia stated:

„Unfortunately, an inaccurate narrative about Georgia continues to circulate, at times, in the statements delivered in this Council. Such portrayals distort the reality, as the internationally recognized progress in such areas as anti-corruption, transparency, open governance and the rule of law is not duly reflected.

Georgia remains committed to constructive engagement and transparent factual communication with its international partners and stay open to engage in a substantive dialogue.“
