UNDP: Public Defender to be admitted in Ninotsminda Boarding School

The United Nations, as everybody else, is concerned about the situation in Niotsminda, said Ana Chernyshova, UNDP Resident Representative in Georgia.

According to the UNDP representative, Public Defender should be admitted into the Ninotsminda Boarding School.

“UNICEF made the statement and I repeat. Our position is that Public Defender should be admitted into this institution. They should have the ability to check the children related situation. Children should have access to human rights and healthcare,” Ana Chernyshova said.

On June 2, Public Defender Nino Lomjaria reported that she had requested information from the General Prosecutor’s Office and Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia about alleged offences that took place in the Ninotsminda Boarding School.

According to the information, investigations were launched into 4 criminal cases of alleged abuse of minors in 2016-2021. Three cases concern alleged violence, and one case – alleged rape.
