Tina Bokuchava: No Circumstances to change UNM's stance on non-cooperation with regime
United National Movement (UNM) Chairperson Tina Bokuchava has reaffirmed her party’s unwavering stance against any collaboration with the current government, expressing solidarity with hunger-striking opposition leader Elene Khoshtaria.
“On behalf of the United National Movement, I once again confirm that no circumstances exist that would change our position on non-cooperation with the regime. Solidarity with Elene! Freedom for the regime’s prisoners!” Bokuchava wrote on social media.
Bokuchava revealed she learned of Khoshtaria’s decision to begin a hunger strike while returning from PACE (Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe), where she had participated in debates demanding the release of political prisoners in Georgia.
“I didn’t question for a moment why she made this decision, because it was crystal clear that her goal is to achieve unity regarding the so-called local self-government elections special operation, which she considers participation in to be destructive,” Bokuchava stated.
The UNM leader expressed full agreement with Khoshtaria’s position, saying that “any form of compromise with the regime is destructive.”
Bokuchava thanked Khoshtaria for her “self-sacrifice” and emphasized that local self-government elections should only be held simultaneously with parliamentary elections under conditions that ensure “fair play rules.”
