UNM Chair: Visa-free travel should be preserved for Georgian citizens, targeted sanctions only for Ivanishvili and his inner circle

“EU member states should not strip Georgian citizens of visa-free travel; such measures should be reserved solely for Ivanishvili and his entourage,” declared Tina Bokuchava, Chairwoman of the United National Movement, during her address at the European People’s Party (EPP) political assembly in Vilnius.

Bokuchava emphasised that sanctions should be explicitly directed at Bidzina Ivanishvili and his circle, including personal sanctions against propagandists and business elites.

“Members of the regime, their propagandists, and the business elite should be denied entry to your countries. However, EU member states must not deprive ordinary Georgian citizens of visa-free travel. This restriction should only apply to Ivanishvili and his inner circle. Furthermore, you should cease providing loans through international financial institutions to Ivanishvili’s illegitimate government, which uses these funds to finance its repressive machinery and corruption schemes,” Bokuchava stated.
