Teona Akubardia, Ana Buchukuri, and Khatuna Samnidze, three opposition MPs, use the interpellation rule to summon Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to the parliament to answer questions about national defence policy, security risks assessment, and the national security concept.
During Tuesday’s briefing, opposition MPs claimed Georgia has so far failed to update “these fundamentally conceptual documents” under the legislation’s set terms and NATO commitments. The MPs say the National Security Council does not meet regularly, which is under the PM’s direct responsibility, to discuss ongoing primary issues.
The opposition MPs urge the Prime Minister to clarify “where Georgia stands” amid Russia’s massive military offensive against Ukraine, as well as what the government is doing to boost national resilience and defend crucial infrastructure.
