Tbilisi Mayor: Pay rise to be reconsidered across Tbilisi municipality

The issue of a pay rise will be reconsidered across Tbilisi municipality from 2022, said Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze during the city government session.

Kaladze echoed the Prime Minister’s initiative to increase wages for public servants. He claimed that the coronavirus pandemic radically changed their plans, including scheduled projects implementation and staff wages.

According to Tbilisi Mayor, some qualified personnel prefer working for private companies. “The public sector cannot compete with the private sector in terms of remuneration, which contributes to the outflow of qualified personnel,” Kaladze claimed.

Following the decision of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, wages of public officers will increase, while mayors’ pay will double from January 2022. PM said the salary increments were essential to boost the motivation of people employed at state institutions.
