Swedish FM calls for sanctions over harsh treatment of Georgian protesters

Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard expressed deep concern about recent events in Georgia, urging the European Union to impose sanctions on those responsible for the harsh treatment of protesters.

Speaking before the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, Stenergard emphasized the severity of the situation, saying, “ I’m extremely worried about the development and that we also need to put sanctions on those responsible for going so hard on the demonstrators.”

The EU foreign ministers are set to discuss the ongoing issue of Georgia during their meeting today.
