“The rise in Georgia’s exports is the result of the right policies,” said Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.

He said Georgia looks after its own national interests, unlike the governments of many EU countries.

“It is precisely because we look after our own people’s interests that we are achieving these results. I was recently in Rome for the conference of speakers of parliament of Council of Europe member states. During the conference and on the sidelines, I had the chance to talk to European colleagues. We discussed Georgia’s 7.5% economic growth. Some say Georgia is envious of others, but believe me, many countries envy these figures, when some EU countries have half that rate of growth. The weak economic performance of EU member states results from policies that work against the interests of the European people themselves. Economic growth in EU member and candidate countries is hovering around zero. Those who don’t listen to Brussels win; those who do, lose,” Papuashvili said.
