“Every prisoner has both the right and the opportunity to a fair trial,” said MP Rati Ionatamishvili, chair of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, when asked about former PM Irakli Garibashvili’s case.

Ionatamishvili stated that the court should weigh legal arguments, stressing that the courtroom is no place for subjective opinion.

“Everyone has the right to a fair trial, and alongside that right, the opportunity to exercise it. We need to draw a line between politics and the legal process. So if anyone can provide an argument, they should of course do so in the legal process. Giving such proceedings a political spin is neither right nor productive. This is a court, and it remains the proper forum for any party wishing to present legal arguments. Unfortunately, so far we are seeing more subjective opinions than arguments. And the court and its courtroom are no place for subjective opinions,” Ionatamishvili told GPB First Channel.
