Republican Party to take part in onetime voting for elections with natural threshold

Republican Party is ready to take part in onetime voting for the elections with proportional system and natural threshold if the ruling Georgian Dream registers the draft bill, said Khatuna Samnidze, one of the leaders of the Republican Party.

Samnidze said she hoped that other opposition parties would face the reality and enter the parliament with purpose to vote for the initiative with three readings.

“This does not mean taking up MP mandates or becoming engaged in the parliament work. This means pressuring the Georgian Dream to have better future,” Khatuna Samnidze told TV Pirveli.

Levan Khabeishvili, a member of the United National Movement (UNM) Party said that none of the party members planned to become engaged in the parliamentary work unless early parliamentary elections were appointed in the country.

“Our standpoint is clear. We will not enter the parliament or sit at a negotiations table if early parliamentary election is the issue for discussions,” Levan Khabeishvili stated.

The Republican Party represented election bloc Power is in Unity during the 2020 parliamentary elections.
