The Georgian Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from Occupied Territories, Health, Labor and Social Affairs reports that passengers traveling from China are checked on coronavirus in accordance with the recommendations issued by the World Health Organizations to prevent spread of the coronavirus the epicenter of which is the Chinese city of Wuhan.

The recommendations are given in the form of a brochure, and the information is provided in three languages: Georgian, English and Chinese. The information in the brochure reads as follows:

What can travelers do to protect themselves and others?

Travelers to Wuhan (China) should

• Avoid contact with sick people.
• Avoid animals (alive or dead), animal markets, and products that come from animals (such as uncooked meat).
• Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
• Older travelers and those with underlying health issues may be at risk for more severe disease and should discuss travel to Wuhan with their healthcare provider.

If you traveled to Wuhan (China) and experience following symptoms within 2 weeks: ü fever ü cough ü difficulty breathing you should:

— Seek medical care right away. Before you go to a doctor’s office or emergency room, call ahead and tell them about your recent travel and your symptoms.

— Avoid contact with others.

— Not travel while sick.

— Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.

Also, Passengers arriving from China will be checked on coronavirus at the airport – Tamar Gabunia, Deputy Minister of Health said earlier this afternoon.

According to Gabunia, doctors are present at Tbilisi International Airport and representatives of Epidemiology Service are working there.

“The passengers will undergo through thermal screening and if anybody has the body temperature upper than 38 degrees, will be sent to the medical institution directly for further examination,” Gabunia said.

Deputy Health Minister said that checking of passengers would continue until the World Health Organization recommended doing so.

Hong has declared the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak an emergency, raising the government’s response to its highest level and rolling out a series of measures to prevent further infection.
