Prosecutor’s Office to appeal Tbilisi Court’s acquittal of drug charges against Tedo Abramov
The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has announced its intention to appeal the decision of the Tbilisi City Court, which found Tedo Abramov not guilty of illegal purchase and possession of a substantial quantity of narcotics.
Following the submission of the legal reasoning, the Prosecutor’s Office will lodge its appeal to the Tbilisi Court of Appeal within the timeframe prescribed by law.
“Law enforcement officers arrested the defendant on December 7, 2024. He was charged with the illegal purchase and storage of a significant amount of narcotics. The investigation by the Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that Abramov illegally bought and stored 4.41548 grams of MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine),” the statement read.
According to the prosecution, despite the evidence thoroughly examined in court, the Tbilisi City Court dismissed the prosecution’s case, acquitting the defendant and releasing him from custody.
“The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia will appeal the verdict to the Tbilisi Court of Appeal within the legal timeframe, following the submission of the detailed motivation,” the agency added.
Earlier today, Tbilisi City Court Judge Tamar Mchedlishvili found Tedo Abramov not guilty of charges related to the purchase and storage of a substantial quantity of drugs and ordered his immediate release from the courtroom.
Police arrested Tedo Abramov on December 7, 2024, and charged him with illegal possession and purchase of large quantities of narcotics. Under Article 260, Section 6, Subsection “a” of the Georgian Criminal Code, these charges carry a prison sentence of 8 to 20 years or even life imprisonment.
